A Sculptural Viewpoint – Andy Parsons & Scoil Mhuire Students

  • Workshop

A Sculptural Viewpoint will look at how 3D forms can be playful, informative and engaging.

Through a series of workshops, artist Andy Parsons will work with young people from Scoil Mhuire National School, introducing them to contemporary sculpture and creating varied and exciting three-dimensional works.

The project is focused on providing children and young people with opportunities to explore their creativity. It will break down the main aspects of contemporary sculpture for all to understand and appreciate at a local level.

Using Carrick-on-Shannon’s natural beauty and local historical sites and sculptures to showcase, inspire and provide the pedestal for the young people’s works.

Working with basic sculptural materials and processes including found objects, papier-mâché, bamboo and aluminium armature wire, we will create a series of sculptures exploring form, balance and texture and take them outside to photograph in different places around Carrick-on-Shannon.

The project will involve five days of workshops in May in the school, The Dock and around Carrick-on-Shannon.

A short video clip documenting this process will be online on 11 June on the Dock website.  A number of photographs of the sculptural work created will be exhibited in The Dock’s Jury Room Cafe for Cruinniú na nÓg.
