Athlone Castle’s ‘Dig it with David’ aims to provide an enjoyable child-centred demonstration on the ins and outs of the workings of an Archaeologist.
In a fun and educational, step by step video tutorial, the Athlone Castle, resident Archaeologist, David Landers, will showcase ‘a dig’ in this fun packed 20-minute video,
Archaeologists are like detectives. By looking at artefacts, they try to figure out how long-ago people lived, how they governed themselves, what art they created, their religious beliefs, their technology, science, and invention, and their daily life. Clues archaeologists use to answer these and other questions about past civilizations can sometimes be found in the artefacts they dig up.
Our young archaeologists will need to prepare some useful tools with the help of their parents including:
- Sand box/pit/kitchen basin filled with sand or soil,
- A hand-held brush, preferably a clean paint brush,
- A basin with water,
- A cushion or soft pad to kneel on,
- A4 sheets of paper, pencils, rubbers/erasers
