Calmast: The Science Behind Animation

Explore the world of animation with Calmast! In this workshop, children will develop their creativity while exploring the history of animation through creating and building their own thaumatrope.

What is a thaumatrope? Thaumatropes were popular toys in the 19th century and one of the first forms of animation. Each child will design and create their very own thaumatrope for Cruinniú na nÓg!

The participants will engage in hands-on activities through which they will ‘learn by-doing by exploring the art, history and technology of animation. Children will also be introduced to different artistic techniques, like the art of storytelling.

You Will Need: Paper, markers, crayons and pencils

This is a pre-recorded workshop aimed at 5-8 year-olds. It will be broadcast on Tipperary County Council Library Service’s Facebook page on June 12th.
