Celebrating Ukrainian Craft – Creating Berehynias

  • Workshop

In this craft workshop, children will create traditional Ukrainian dolls, Berehynias.

Berehynia is a Slavic goddess with a function of hearth mother, protectress of the home. Traditionally in Ukraine these dolls are created to bring luck and prosperity to one’s home and protect it from bad spirits and people with bad intentions.

Run by Ukrainian artist Olga Duka, the children will learn how to craft the dolls by using Ukrainian traditional doll-making techniques and all-natural recyclable materials.

The workshops will be a safe, friendly, artistic environment for Ukrainian children where they can speak their own language to peers and to the facilitator.

The one-hour workshops will be held in Drogheda Library and are open to ages 9–12.

All materials will be supplied.
