County Mayo has a rich literary history one that includes and extensive collection of wonderful children’s books.

Many of these books have been supported by the creative communities’ program either through funding for developing the book, printing, or hosting events in libraries.

We now want to create and launch a map of Children’s books in Mayo. This will include books that are set in Mayo or written by Mayo Authors. And be developed through a participatory process with children.

The map will visualize just how many great children’s books there are connected to Mayo and include creative activity prompts to encourage children and their families to explore the county, be creative and leverage the skills of local creative practitioners to engage more families with the library. From seeing the Erris landscape through the eyes of Noinin from the book Is Mise Noinin, to trying to catch the giant in Westport from the book the Watchman of Westport, to joining Sathvik and the gang in Ballina from the book the World of Sathvik and his Friends, to exploring trees in Brackloon from Ollen the Oak Tree there are so many great children’s books that will be brought to life through the map and corresponding creative activities.
