Circus Explored is an initiative led by the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network in association with Creative Ireland and delivered for the first time in 2022, in partnership with Galway Community Circus, Dublin Circus Project, Cloughjordan Circus Club and Circus Factory, Cork.
Through this project, ISACS connected with every single Creative Ireland Coordinator and Head Librarian in each local authority in Ireland engaging them directly in the distribution of over 1500 juggling sets to their communities. Youth-led video tutorials were created to share various juggling techniques and skills elements. Open days were held in each of the four partners spaces for Cruinniú na nÓg, 11th June 2022.
Building on last year’s success, in 2023, we will partner with the same organisations and distribute 4,000 free Spinning Plates to every county in Ireland. Each set will also be accompanied by a postcard with a QR code linking to video tutorials for community members to learn how to spin a plate virtually with young circus practitioners from the partnering organisations.
The overall initiative will conclude with an island-wide day of activity at each partner centre – Galway Community Circus, Dublin Circus Project, Circus Factory Cork, Cloughjordan Circus Club, In Your Space Circus, Derry, Raphoe & Newtownstewart; and Circusful, Belfast.
Call into your local library for a Spinning Plate and stick, these will be given to local young people on a first-come first-served basis.
