Collaborative Mosaic Trail with Sean Corcoran of the Art Hand
Join the Collaborative Mosaic Trail with Sean Corcoran of the Art Hand in the new Cultural Quarter of the Waterford City.
To showcase the Mosaic Trail we will run an outdoor workshop on June 23rd during Cruinniú na nÓg where residents from the area and passersby will be asked to take part in making a series of mosaics. The biggest of these will be a 4 foot x 4 foot mosaic that, once completed, will be installed on the outside of a building on Georges Street.
An additional six smaller sample panels will also be made that will be going on display in a variety of internal and external locations and at various community events. Residents, local businesses and the wider creative community will get involved by contributing items for the mosaics.
The mosaics will be created using items like marbles, stones, shells, buttons, beads, small items from toys and colourful tiles. In particular, personal items that say something about who you are, and coins, badges, and colourful jewellery will make the mosaic special. The theme for the mosaics will be circles as a symbol of diversity and unity.
Sean has worked all over Ireland on mosaic projects including Special School of the Holy Spirit in Kilkenny, St Brigid's GNS in Glasnevin and The Solas Centre in Waterford and are currently completing a 24’ long mosaic for St Martin’s Special School in Waterford.
