Digging into the Past

The wonderful team at Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre in Granard will be setting up an mock archaeological dig for children to enjoy and explore.

An actual exploration trench site will be located at the centre, featuring a host of artifacts to be discovered, such as different types of rock, fossils, pottery, and coins.

Local schools and youth groups will also be invited to take part in this workshop, which is hoped to have local cultural significance. Granard has a rich Norman history, and this event will bring this history to life for the participating children. During the day, a class will also be delivered to explain how the Normans came to Longford. 

By uncovering the past, we can learn more about their way of life and how it has shaped ours.
