Dragonflies from the Dump – Make a Dragonfly from Glass

  • Workshop

Make your own special work of art from glass!

Dragonflies from the Dump is an innovative project that focuses on making something beautiful from something discarded. Children will design and make a hanging glass piece that describes their own imaginative ideas of dragonflies, dragons or flies using waste glass.

Working from drawings made by the children in the session, they will learn to cut glass, grind and foil, solder and finally to finish off their piece with patinas and polish.

We will then add loops and a chain so it can be displayed proudly in their home. There is no experience necessary as every aspect of the making process will be taught.

The workshop will start with a drawing session, describing ideas and shapes and discussing all the glass that is thrown away or recycled. A demonstration of glass cutting and copper foil techniques will show them what can be done. Then each child will cut their own glass under supervision. Collaging the pieces together, soldering and cleaning will be the last step of the process.

A fun afternoon where new skills can be learned and shared!

Suitable for ages 8–16.

The workshops are free but places are limited so booking is essential. Book now by contacting glasssocietyofireland@gmail.com
