Drama Drop-In is a collaborative project between Ballina Arts Centre, and theatre practitioner and actor Stephen Doyle.
The drop-in drama workshop for ages 9-12 will be facilitated by Stephen, with the objective of creating an environment where the participants are introduced to creative theatre practice and where they can feel comfortable and work creatively to find their own voice.
In the course of the one-hour session, the aim will be for the young people’s personal development to be greatly enhanced with an emphasis on team-building, self-awareness and awareness of others. The learnings are intended to build participant’s self-esteem alongside their communicative, imaginative, analytical and improvisational skills.
In turn, participants will develop a greater appreciation and respect for their peers. They will be encouraged to be original in their thought processes and the execution of them. By the end, they will also have a greater knowledge of the rudiments of the practice of theatre.
The source material for the explorations will come from the participants themselves and their ideas. The workshop is open to participants from all the communities of Ballina and North Mayo. They will seek to create an environment conducive to self-expression through voice, movement and interactive learning.
