Heritage Upcycling Competition

  • Workshop

Wicklow Arts Office understands that a lot of young people around the county are isolating at home, not able to meet up with friends or participate in their usual creative activities. Normally Cruinniú na nÓg allows us to gather and create in parks, libraries, schools, theatres, woodlands and heritage sites. This year in light of the Covid-19 pandemic this is not possible. So, Wicklow Arts Office are delighted to ask you to create together yet apart this year for Cruinniú. We want you with some assistance from parents or guardians to show us your creative ability and share it with the county.

Create your favourite Wicklow monument or building entirely from recycled materials you find at home or in nature. For example sticks, leaves, plastic containers, straws, bottles, boxes, card, bottletops, cartons, papier maché or other items from home which are no longer in use. You can also use paint, glue, marker or crayons but you should make a 3D (three dimensional) replica of your impression of your favourite Wicklow monument or building.  The monument / building should be recognisable but you can put your own creative take on its design.

There are such a wide range of Wicklow monuments, light houses, historic houses and buildings to choose from.  There may be some in your town or village which you pass every day, or you can look into the old myths and legends from County Wicklow to see ones you know of from history.  Ages 10-18.
