Light the Way Photography and Ceramic Workshop – Macroom Library

  • Workshop

A gathering of young people like Cruinniú na nÓg provides a great opportunity to encourage children to immerse themselves in their local heritage and culture.

These workshops aim to create something to light the way forward in a time when technology can distract young minds from expressing themselves through sensory means.

Ann Burns will host two separate, two-hour creative workshops, each identical and comprising of two parts. These will be a mixture of photography and ceramics.

With the summer solstice following shortly after the workshop date, Ann will help children to create a red earthenware night light or night torch to light the way for the longest evening of the year.

The initial design for the project will be based on photographs taken and drawings made by the children from references available to them at the library followed by the creation of the earthenware pieces. The pieces will be fired after the workshop has been completed, for collection by the children a week later. The work will not need to be glazed, only fired.
