Marvellous Beasts in Ancient Books: A Character Design Workshop

  • Workshop

From the earliest handwritten books until now, we have attempted to create great books of knowledge to help understand our world.

Before photography, those collecting information about the wide world of animals often relied on eye witness accounts, artists drawings, myth and folklore to fill their books. In this workshop, we will discover some of these wonderful books with scientific descriptions of dragons, unicorns and all kinds of strange animals! Using these accounts and artists’ depictions as inspiration, you will create some marvellous beasts of your own.

Materials required for each workshop:

  • paper (A4 white or any colour and card is fine too)
  • a glue stick/Pritt stick or sellotape
  • something to draw with

This live workshop will be held via Zoom. You must book in advance via Eventbrite.

We at Offaly Libraries are really looking forward to Cruinniú na nÓg this year. This year all our events will be online and we will be posting great ideas for how you can get involved here or keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page.
