In this workshop, students from primary schools in Waterford will create motion sculptures, also called Automata, using simple materials and their imagination.
Exploring engineering and mechanics, participants will see paper and cardboard come to life. A two-part video tutorial will show them how to create motion with shapes and customise creations, and they will also learn about the history of animation and motion sculptures, from Leonardo Da Vinci to today’s robotics and motion pictures. To finish, once the Automata is ready and working, participants will record a video to document and show their enchanted sculpture.
The final videos will be used together to create a community showcase online. Videos of the workshop will be available to view online on the Creative Waterford Facebook page.
