Traditional singer Aileen Lambert has a lovely song to share with you about an encounter between a child and a magpie. The songs relates to many superstitions associated with the bird and takes the form of a conversation between the young person and “Mr Magpie”.
The song was composed in 2017 by Michael Fortune as part of the Songs for Our Children project. For ease of learning, Aileen breaks the song down line by line and follows it with a sing-through complete with subtitles, so the whole family can sing along. Aileen is accompanied by her daughter Nellie, age 11.
Aileen delivers traditional song workshops in schools with the Heritage-in-Schools Scheme and Music Generation. She instructs all ages from Junior Infants to 6th class. She is currently working along with her husband Michael Fortune on the ‘Songs for Our Children’ Project, with support from Local Authorities, Galway 2020, and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
This workshop will be available on Facebook and YouTube all day on June 12th.
