A Playground For Bees
Led by artist and landscape architect Sophie Graefin von Matzlan, and working with a choreographer and local community, this series of workshops leading up to June 23rd are educational, creative, and adventurous, with the aim of deepening children’s understanding for nature and ecology.
Children will build a sculptural bee-motel using willow as a suitable home for the Mason bees, which are very active pollinators but non-stinging, and will plant bee-fodder plants. Larger play structures will also be devised by the children from the willow. A performer-choreographer will develop and choreograph a site-specific dance performance with the children that take part in the workshops.
On June 23rd, a final three hour workshop will include a talk by the participants on what they have learnt about bees, and a final performance of the dance, interpreting their workshop experience.
