Freshly Ground Theatre will engage early years children in a creative, play-based theatre project that explores The Four Seasons and on a more broader scale, the climate. The project will take the form of facilitated workshops that will be delivered in a blend of Gaeilge and English to offer a rich learning environment that promotes appreciation and everyday use of Irish words and phrases.
The workshops will involve a large element of exploratory play and discovery with facilitators present to guide and support the creative impulses that come from the participants. There will be offerings to interact with many activities that engage with all of the senses and activities that involve messy play, collaboration and imaginative role play.
The workshops will inspire the creation of a larger playspace that brings together the findings and activities. Within this, there will be a series of immersive playstations, which will provide our young artists with an invitation to design their own narrative within the space, take creative initiative and exercise their imagination. These stations will focus on sensory elements connected to each season; such as water and sand in the summer and “snow” in the winter. Participants will explore the range of feelings, sounds, textures and colours, discovering as each season changes. The Irish language will be embedded into the engagement with facilitators in the space.
