Sensory Song Tales is an artist residency that will take place in Holy Family Special School in Cootehill, Co. Cavan.
On Saturday, June 12th, to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg, a short video showcasing the project will be shown on the Cavan Monaghan Creative Channel.
The following is an overview of the project:
Phase 1: Ceol Connected’s Thomas Johnston and Orla Kelly will design an immersive multisensory music experience for the children who attend the Special Care classes (approx. 36 children). This workshop will be designed to support the children in experiencing the music, stories, and songs though sound, touch, smell, and movement. During Phase 1, materials and objects will be sourced and created, and the workshop’s content (songs/music/interactions) devised.
Phase 2: Thomas and Orla will work with two musicians (Music Generation) and a local visual artist to share the Sensory SongTales approach. This is an important element of this project, as it will build capacity for this type of work in Cavan/Monaghan, and ensure that its impact can live beyond the workshops in June. We will also facilitate a CPD session with the teachers at the school to develop their skills and confidence in facilitating sensory arts experiences.
Phase 3: Over two days, the two Music Generation musicians and local visual artists will facilitate the workshops with the children, supported and guided by Thomas and Orla.
