The Big Dig with the School of Irish Archaeology

Experience what it’s like to be an archaeologist and join the School of Irish Archaeology and Solstice Arts Centre for the Big Dig workshop!

Learn how to excavate the remains of a Viking house. As you dig through the site, you might unearth Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1,000 years. Discover the lives of our Viking ancestors as history is brought to life. 

The workshops are free, but places are limited and booking is required. 

A maximum of 12 children can partake in any one session.

Suitable for children aged 5-12 years.

Parental supervision is required.

This is an outdoor event. Come prepared for the weather. 

There will be six 40-minute digs within the timeframe indicated. 

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the workshop.

Please note: This is a public event and a photographer will be present for part of the session. Attendees will be asked to sign in and grant consent for photographs to be taken. If you would prefer not to have you or your child’s photograph taken, please make the photographer aware of this.
