Tionól Harp and Pipes 2024

Tionól Harp and Pipes is an annual festival for young harpers and pipers from County Laois, and visiting young musicians. Through support from Creative Ireland Laois, Music Generation Laois will commission new music to be performed at this year’s Tionól. Childrens voices and ideas will be central to this project, both in the project development, and in the music creation. 

Scottish musicians Catriona McKay (harp) and Chris Stout (fiddle) have been commissioned to create music for Tionól 2024, supported by Creative Ireland Laois. This music will be premiered in-person and online on Saturday 2 November at 8pm, in Portlaoise. 

This project follows on in a series of commissions funded by Creative Ireland Laois, for Tionól, including ‘White Horses’ by Maeve Gilchrist in 2019, and ‘The Spirit of Laois’ by Michael Rooney in 2017.
