Tools of the Trade 2024

  • Workshop

“Butter, Sweet, Time” – The cogs and wheels that turn Shandon’s Historical Quarter.

Turn back time with this year’s ‘Tools of the Trade’ exhibition, talk and tour and rediscover the traditional craft of butter making with a live demonstration with Cork Butter Museum in the Civic Offices Atrium.

Have you ever wondered what interesting things happen behind the scenes of workplaces in the City? This is exactly what children who take part in the ‘Tools of the Trade’ art project have the opportunity to explore.

This year ‘Tools of the Trade’ will introduce children in Cork City primary schools to the work of project partners – Cork Butter Museum, Shandon Sweets, and Shandon Bells and Clock Tower – through the tools they use every day, followed by site visits giving the children a unique behind the scenes experience.

A series of follow-up creative workshops with the schools involved will draw inspiration from these specific places. The resulting art pieces created by the children will be carefully curated and displayed in a public exhibition at Cork City Hall from 10th to 21st June 2024. The collaborative pieces are then returned to the school involved for permanent display.

Email info@toolsofthetrade.ie to book a place for the tour and demonstration on 15th June.
