Over the course of four workshops, children aged 5 and over will work with their parents/families to craft a decorative totem pole and a fun wigwam to enjoy all summer long!
While materials needed for the projects will be explained in Workshop 1’s Video, here is a list of items that can be collected in advance:
- light sandpaper
- non-toxic paints
- cable ties or string
- large screwdriver
- tape measure
- buttons/ ribbon/ beads/ bunting/ feathers
Parental supervision is essential when using secateurs and other sharp tools.
Workshop 1: Foraging for Materials – Aoife will show children and parents how to look for suitable materials in their local green areas.
Workshop 2: Making the Totem Pole – How to clean, paint and put up the totem pole under parental guidance.
Workshop 3: Building the Wigwam – Learning how to build the wigwam using gathered materials. Children will learn to weave, tie and support their wigwam so it lasts all summer!
Workshop 4: Decorating the Wigwam – How to decorate it using wool, string, paint and upcycling techniques.
