Granard Motte

Come along for a tour of the Granard Motte and Bailey Heritage Centre.

The Motte was built around 1199 by the Norman knight, Richard de Tuite, as part of an initiative to extend Norman control over the country. It was erected upon and within a pre-existing ringfort or rath which may have belonged to a local branch of the Farrell clan.
