Traditional Irish Music Workshop

  • Performance

Learn all about traditional Irish music with fun interactive listening games and collaborative composition, thanks to your talented host Jason Turk.

An Irish traditional musician, Jason Turk has placed multiple times in the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil and has toured extensively around the world.

The aim of this fun workshop presented, by Cork Academy of Music, is to give an introduction to just what makes Irish traditional music different from other genres.

As traditional Irish music is primarily aural in nature, much of this workshop will be carried out with our eyes closed, so participants learn to use their ears critically. Just by listening participants will learn to identify different tune types and different ornamentation, as well as participating in a wide variety of music listening games!

Participants will also collaborate with Jason on the composition of a new tune.

No materials, instruments or equipment is needed to enjoy this workshop!

– Suitable for musicians and non-musicians

– First workshop takes place at 2.30pm; the second at 3.30pm
