Try the Uilleann Pipes and Young Pipers’ Recital

  • Workshop

Na Píobairí Uilleann will host a Try the Pipes morning and young pipers’ recital. The day will be aimed at children and young people ages 5-17. Participants will get the opportunity to learn about and experience Ireland’s native instrument, the uilleann pipes. This will take place at Na Píobairí Uilleann headquarters and admission is free.

The event will start with a Try the Pipes session, where participants will get their first taste of playing the pipes with the guidance of two master uilleann pipers, Colm Broderick and Maeve O’Donnell.

The tutors will give a short performance and demonstration of the pipes and will then assist children in trying a practice set of pipes for themselves.

The second half of the event will feature three young pipers who are currently taking lessons.

Try the Pipes events are a hugely successful initiative run by NPU and other uilleann piping communities frequently throughout the year. They have proven to be a great way of engaging with children and adults from all backgrounds and are an incredibly unique way of engaging with Irish culture and heritage.

Information will be made available about our Pipes on Loan scheme and on uilleann piping tuition to those interested.
