The West’s Creativity Fest: What’s on in Connacht for Cruinniú na nÓg


From outdoor drumming to daring circus skills, terrific theatrics to crafts from the past, Cruinniú na nÓg 2022 is set to bring young people across the country on a voyage of creative discovery.

The circus rolls into Galway!

With 500+ events taking place nationwide and online, there’s so much to enjoy! Here are just a few of the many exciting free events taking place in Connacht on June 11th.

Ancient crafts and mini maestros in Mayo and Sligo

Book worms and crafty kids will love getting hands-on with centuries past at these engaging heritage workshops. Taking place at Ballina Library, the intriguing sessions will reveal print and literary history’s fascinating creative processes. Eager participants will also become mini book binders as they learn to craft their very own hardback book to take home.

Music is on the menu at Tubbercurry Community Library with a lively interactive music workshop. Would-be maestros will get to conduct live music played by Music Generation’s super musician educators, while learning all about different genres and instruments.

Irish culture and creative writing in Leitrim and Roscommon

Discover a world of Irish song, dance, music, storytelling and folklore at Áirc Damhsa Irish Culture Club. Taking place at Gaelscoil Liatroma, Carrick-on-Shannon, join Cathy Jordan, Edwina Guckian, Aindrias De Staic and friends as they share the unique joy of Irish culture through fun taster workshops.

In Boyle, young people are invited to tread the boards at Roscommon County Youth Theatre’s creative writing and performance workshop. Exploring plots, storylines, monologues and interesting characters, participants will bring their creations to life and perform on the day.

Circus spectacle and group drumming in Galway City and County

Join the circus – well, for a day at least – with ISACS Circus Explored in Shantalla, Galway City. Embrace your inner performer and learn basic circus skills like juggling, acrobatics, balance and much more, all while playing fun circus games and making new pals.

The Hill of Knockma, Castlehacket, will set the scene for an almighty racket as everyone is invited to come and Wake the Fairies! As the fairies sleep in the woods, only magic, music and a special rhythm played together can rouse them and this playful drumming workshop aims to do just that. Come along and be part of the beat on June 11th.
