Convergence is a Shared Island multi-disciplinary Youth Arts Project exploring what a “Shared Island” means to two groups of young people in Tallaght and Derry/Londonderry.
During the weeks preceding Cruinniú na nÓg, Freshly Ground Theatre have been working with a group of young people from Creative Places MacUíllíam in Tallaght and in the Waterside Theatre & Arts Centre in Derry/Londonderry, the MakeyUppers have been working with an LGBTQ+ group from the Rainbow Project, to explore what a shared Island means to them. During these workshops, the groups used automatic writing prompts, physical tableaux and scenes, film and photography to explore place, space, community, otherness and connection to place and to create a ‘care package’ to send and share with the other group. Both artist groups were supported in their exchange of practise by Jenny Macdonald of SoloSIRENs
During Cruinniú na nÓg, the young people from each group are inviting members of the public to their ‘place’ to contribute to the project through conversation and collective brainstorming. Postboxes will be also available in each location for you to submit your thoughts on what a shared island means to you.
